The missions listed below are supported by Foundry
UMC and its members and take pace outside the District of Columbia. Thus, they have a
more global focus.
Located in Mutare,
Zimbabwe, Africa University was founded in 1992 with substantial support from
the United Methodist Church as the first private, international university in
the African continent. Today it
provides quality higher education to over 1,100 students from 12
nations. Foundry supports Africa University in many ways. This church’s
financial contributions supplement the “Toothpaste Fund,” which assists the
students at AU with modest financial aid that helps them to cover expenses
like food and toiletries. The AU mission also works to sponsor musical and
cultural events both in the United States
and in Zimbabwe.
Volunteers in Mission
(VIM)
The Volunteers in Mission
(VIM) team is extremely active at Foundry. Established circa 2000, this mission
provides service opportunities (both in the United States and abroad) that
raise awareness about Foundry’s connections with the global community. VIM
meets the third Sunday of every month to develop plans for mission trips,
which occur approximately once every year. The Foundry VIM team has visited
locations all over the globe, including Nicaragua
and Ukraine.
VIM also visits sites inside the US;
for the past few years, Foundry members have been committed to Hurricane
Katrina relief across Louisiana.
Each year, VIM hosts the Silent Auction, which provides support for its
annual projects and mission trips. The mission also supports Miguel Mairena
and Nan McCurdy, GBGM missionaries serving in Managua, Nicaragua.
