The Foundry Congregational Council is providing multiple resources for the congregation as we continue our discernment and inquiry about issues relating to our gay, lesbian, bisexual and transgender (GLBT) family.

If you have questions or concerns you wish the Congregational Council to address, please feel free to contact the members of the Council by emailing them at cong.council@foundryumc.org.

Foundry and DC Marriage Equality

Foundry’s congregation and its leadership are in a discernment process to determine our pastoral response to the legalization of same gender marriages within the District of Columbia. We are conscious of positions that The United Methodist Church has taken that are opposed to same-gender marriage, but those aspects of church discipline are in conflict with the deeper emphasis of the church's Book of Discipline upon the gospel of grace and pastoral care for all of God's children.

While we are in this process of discernment, Foundry will continue its policy of providing services that will honor the committed relationships of our gay and lesbian members, constituents and friends. At these services, the vows and / or other statement of commitment previously made by the couple will be shared with and reported to the gathered congregation.

To request a service or for further information, please contact Bob McDonald at rmcdonald@foundryumc.org.

Foundry's Statement of Call

We at Foundry are called by
God to deepen faith through transcendent worship and challenging study, to create engaged community through inclusion and caring, and
to transform the world through active service and prophetic leadership.

Our Key Scripture

One of the religious scholars came up...he put in his question: "Which is most important of all the commandments?"
Jesus said, "The first in importance is, 'Listen, Israel: The Lord your God is one; so love the Lord God with all your passion and prayer and intelligence and energy.' And here is the second: 'Love others as well as you love yourself.' There is no other commandment that ranks with these."

Mark 12: 28-31, from The Message

Dean Snyder is on Facebook and likes to have friends. However, he does not initiate friendships with church members in case they don't want the pastor as their friend, but it would be awkward to say no. He welcomes your initiative.
