Ways to Serve This Month

Help with sustainable coffee hour
As part of Foundry's commitment to sustainability and caring for God's creation, we will begin phasing in the use of ceramic/stoneware mugs and silverware instead of disposable products. Please help us with this effort by donating your used 6-8 inch plates and silverware. We are also looking for volunteers to help transport these items to the dishwasher at the end of each coffee hour. Please contact Jackie at jackie@foundryumc.org if you are interested!
Volunteer with Sandwich 1000
The Sandwich 1000 mission is looking for additional folks to join our pool of amazing volunteers. Sandwich 1000 meets two Wednesdays per month from 6:30-8 p.m. in the Big Kitchen at Foundry to make bologna and cheese sandwiches for Martha's Table and McKenna's Wagon. Currently we are limiting our sessions to 10 volunteers per session to maintain social distancing, and we ask that all volunteers are vaccinated and wear masks while inside the church. If you are interested in joining our email list, please send your name and email information to sandwich1000@foundryumc.org
Sort Clothing for Our Neighbors
Join your fellow Foundry members in a fun, casual, fellowship event on Thursday, May 19 from 6:30-8:30 p.m. We will meet in the Davenport Center to sort donated clothing to be sent on to Charlie’s Place for distribution. Clothing donations are still being accepted, so please continue to bring us any new or gently-used adult clothing that you'd like to share with our neighbors. Send any questions to jackie@foundryumc.org.
Serve at the world famous Foundry lemonade stand!

This year, our lemonade will be part of the Stead Park Kids and Family Day on Saturday, June 11 (also the day of the Capitol Pride Parade!)  You can sign up to serve the full time from 2:30-6 p.m., or choose an hour long shift in between. This year the Pride parade route has shifted away from 16th and P Street NW. While this is different, we're excited to partner with Friends of Stead Park, Rainbow Families, and The Play Time Project to support this event.

Power to the Polls Pop-Ups
Foundry is a member of the Washington Interfaith Network (WIN), a non-partisan network of faith institutions that helps organize people across race, class, religion, and neighborhood to build power around issues facing all eight wards in the District.

Due to WIN’s organizing & demands, our communities have been strengthened & quality of life improved. The 2022 issue agenda includes: Affordable Homes, Black Wealth Building, Community-Based Public Safety, Climate Action Through Affordable Buildings, Public Transit, Careers & Family Sustaining Jobs.

We have two Power to the Polls Pop-up opportunities hosted by Foundry: one led by Rev. Ginger E. Gaines-Cirelli on Saturday, June 4 (time is TBD), near the Brookland Farmer's Market in Ward 5, and another hosted by Foundry's Sacred Resistance team following the service on Sunday, June 5 at 12:30 on the Plaza (weather permitting – otherwise in Commons Area).

During this event, we will
a) review the WIN Agenda,
b) be sure DC residents are registered to vote & know their polling location,
c) share our people power on social media & through e-mail action.

We look forward to seeing you at one of these events!
