Prayer and service.  Spirituality and social justice.  Loving God and changing the world.

These things belong together.  They define the life of the community of people who make up Foundry Church.

Our worship is Christ-centered, grounded in Scripture, enlivened with dynamic music, and designed to invite persons to hear God’s call in their lives.  We have two Sunday worship celebrations.  At 9:00 AM is a Gospel Worship Celebration, a relaxed service supported musically by a small vocal ensemble, piano, and other instruments.  At 11:15 AM is our spirited Traditional Worship Celebration with music ranging from classical to gospel, including full choir and organ.

We welcome children with joy into our worship, providing a children’s message and “wiggle bags” at both worship services, as well as a staffed nursery throughout Sunday morning.  Sunday School for all ages is offered between our two services. We are a reconciling congregation.  Lesbian, gay, bisexual, transgender, and queer people are members and leaders within our congregation.  We believe in marriage equality.

There are literally dozens of mission opportunities weekly, monthly and throughout the year.  One of our goals is to end chronic homelessness in Washington, DC. We are committed to the deep work of racial justice and advocacy. We have English as a Second Language classes, feeding missions, mission trips, and much more.

Some people call us progressive, yet don’t be surprised if there is an altar call or prayer with the laying on of hands in our services.   We use our intellect and are honest about our doubts, but we also listen to our hearts.  We study the Bible using the best resources of scholarship, but also with a desire to know God.  We encourage small group sharing and support.

We are far from perfect, but we try to love God and each other.  We are trying to change the world.

I hope you find what you need here on our website.  Sample a sermon.  Check out our missions and learning opportunities.  Email us your questions.  Pay us a visit in person.  We will welcome you with joy!
